TEKS
5.9
Geometry and spatial reasoning. The student recognizes the connection between ordered pairs of numbers and locations of points on a plane. The student is expected to:
5.9A Locate and name points on a coordinate grid using ordered pairs of whole numbers. S
5.13
Probability and statistics. The student solves problems by collecting, organizing, displaying, and interpreting sets of data. The student is expected to:
Vocabulary
MondayObjective
Describe characteristics of data presented in tables and graphs including median, mode, and range.
Tuesday
Unit 11 EOU - Inherited traits and learned behaviors
Wednesday
Objective
(they have already done the basics of this so we will extend)
Thursday
Finish coordinate pairs
Graphing
Friday

Probability and statistics. The student solves problems by collecting, organizing, displaying, and interpreting sets of data. The student is expected to:
- 5.13A Use tables of related number pairs to make line graphs. S
- 5.13B Describe characteristics of data presented in tables and graphs including median, mode, and range. R
- 5.13C Graph a given set of data using an appropriate graphical representation such as a picture or line graph.
Vocabulary
- Coordinate system – a method of locating points on a plane or in space by means of numbers
- Data – numbers or information that are/is collected from a survey or experiment
- Median – the middle number of a set of data that has been arranged in order from greatest to least or least to greatest
- Mode – the most frequent piece of data in the set
- Range – the difference between the greatest number and least number in a set of data
MondayObjective
Describe characteristics of data presented in tables and graphs including median, mode, and range.
- watch
- mean, median, mode toads
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C9LBF3b65s
- brain pop
- http://www.brainpop.com/math/probability/meanmedianmodeandrange/preview.weml
- card game
- Students will deal a hand of seven cards to each other. Students will order their cards in their hand. Once their cards are in order, students will record their hand on the recording sheet then select the median and the mode from their hand. The median added to the mode is the students score at the end of each round.
- practice
- students will practice the skills with different data sets
Tuesday
Unit 11 EOU - Inherited traits and learned behaviors
Wednesday
Objective
- I can locate, name and graph ordered pairs on a coordinate plane
- Game
- mean, median, mode
- rags to riches
- landmark shark game http://media.emgames.com/emgames/demosite/playdemo.htmlactivity=M5A006&activity&level=3
(they have already done the basics of this so we will extend)
- create a foldable
- nerf dart activity
- move shapes
Thursday
Finish coordinate pairs
- finish sheet
- do PI from TEKS Resource System
Graphing
- create a foldable over the three types of graphs we have to know (picto graph, bar and line)
- as a class we will create a picto graph over inherited and learned traits
- we will create a graph of our science data from the school year and compare it with the class and districts (we will use google spreadsheet to complete this)
Friday
- Students will complete the PI for graphing and mode median range.
